What we do

Hello.... here's what we can do for you !

We provide a link between people interested in volunteering and non-profit groups looking for volunteers. We advertise for volunteers on behalf of 300+ non-profit groups in Sligo and we refer interested people to these groups.

Organisations:

At Sligo Volunteer Centre, community organisations which involve or need volunteers can....

  1. Avail of our free service where we promote and advertise your volunteer vacancy through our database website, facebook, and twitter pages, countywide posters and monthly email updates..
  2. Get quality training about finding, keeping and managing volunteers.
  3. Get on-going information, advice and support on working with your volunteers.
  4. Get help in putting your volunteer roles and putting volunteer policies and procedures in place.
  5. Get support to develop a voluntary Volunteer Coordinator role within your organisation.
  6. Get a Garda Vetting Service – for organisations who do not have access to their own Authorised Signatory (cost involved)
  7. Request presentations about volunteering and volunteering opportunities e.g. large corporate organisations or schools or colleges.

It is also important to know what we cannot do:

  1. We cannot supply organisations with groups of volunteers.
  2. We cannot guarantee to refer any volunteers – sometimes no one applies. However, we continue to actively promote all vacant roles
  3. We do not screen or select volunteers for you. We will try to guide or steer potential volunteers to roles we think will suit both themselves and the organisation, but we cannot control who applies.

Statement of Neutrality

Volunteer Ireland, Volunteer Centres and Volunteering Information Services are independent of Government, political parties and interest groups. As such, we maintain ideological and political neutrality.

Our mission is to promote the value of volunteering and increase the range and quality of volunteering in Ireland. Any organisation wishing to recruit volunteers may do so through our online database, I-VOL, once they meet the terms and conditions of I-VOL. The advertising of a volunteer opportunity on behalf of an organisation does not imply any endorsement of the aims and objectives of the organisation.

We believe that volunteering should be accessible and inclusive. Our role is to ensure that anyone who wants to volunteer can volunteer.
