How to use our Services
Sligo Volunteer Centre - a one-stop shop for volunteering in County Sligo !
We are happy to help any Not For Profit group in County Sligo at whatever stage they are at with their Volunteer Programme.
Our core services are free - with additional services like Training & Garda Vetting incurring nominal charges.
Stage 1: Thinking of establishing a Volunteer Programme - we offer:
One to One advice and consultation around getting started
Run group training to support this development stage
Various templates/guidesheets around areas you need to know starting off.
The person who is going to be managing your volunteer programme may find our Volunteer Managers Get Togethers useful (see Trainng & Other support section)
Stage 2: Recruiting Volunteers
There are two steps to registering a new vacancy with the Sligo Volunteer Centre:
1. Register your organisation (if you have not already done so at Stage 1): This is a one-time registration process. On approval you will receive an 'Organisation Key' (which is a number code) which you will then use to register your volunteer opportunities. If you have never registered your organisation with us before, please go to our ‘Register your Organisation’ page.
2. Register your Vacancy: If you have registered your organisation and have your 'Organisation Key' and wish to register a vacancy please go to our‘Register your vacancies’page.
We proactively advertise your vacancy and aim to promote it to suitable volunteers. For Short Term and Once Off Opportunities we operate a Text List, which we send to 150+ people who have expressed interest in these roles. The text is sent in the days leading up to the evnet/fundraiser etc. with a call to cntact the organisation seeking volunteers. We are very active on Facebook and Twitter, through which we also promote your opportunites.
Stage 3: Screening & Selecting Volunteers
A stronger Community & Voluntary Sector leads to positive outcomes for the people of Sligo. We promote your organisation and the opportunites to volunteer on our database, through media and social media. Our service is about connecting people who wish to volunteer to opportunities out there. Any promotion of our services, through mentions in media, Social Media and in particular any recognition for any support or assistance that you found useful, will encourage others to use our service too.
